Bali

The InterContinental Bali Resort was a new build. It is located on Jimbaran Beach which is the best sandy bottom beach on the island. The Hotel has 425 rooms and suites plus 8 restaurants, numerous meeting rooms, Banquet Rooms, Ballroom, health  and swimming facilities.

My responsibilities included control of the Architecture, Interior Design and all other Technical disciplines. I employed a full time on-site Project Manager to monitor daily activities at the site.

In a Western country, we would peak at approximately 700 labor to construct a Project of this magnitude. In Bali, with a Korean Contractor, we peaked at 9,000 labor. I never did figure out where all those people were!

This Hotel was constrained by the local requirements to be only 3 stories high. The requirement in Bali is that no buildings be taller than the palm trees. The result was that to walk from one end of the building to the other was more than a 1/2 mile.
